The higher power of Lucky

Lucky is 10 years old and living with her guardian in theMojave Desert town, well actually it isn't even a town called Hard Pan in the desert of California. Can it be a town when there are only 43 residents and only 3 of them have jobs? Can the higher power that others talk about while they attend the various self help groups on the porch help Lucky? Is Brigitte her beautiful French guardian planning to leave her and return to France, who will care for Lucky then?

Winner of the American Newberry award for 2007, written by a librarian Susan Patron (illustrated by Matt Phelan) and causing controversy in the USA over the use of one little word in a story that old Short Sammy relates.

Killer McKenzie

Killer McKenzie

Alexandra is determined not to enjoy her summer holidays with her father in outback Australia..
London based Alexandra has some hilarious experiences adjusting to farm life.Slowly she begins to enjoy her time on the farm and the people around her.
I really enjoyed this book- I laughed at Alexandra's experiences and the names of the animals given. I also felt frustration and happiness as Alexandra begins to realize the things around her aren't that bad....

Heroes

An inspiring book inviting readers “on a journey from the ordinary to the
extraordinary”. It presents positive messages in motivating ways: case studies of heroes - Jesse Martin, Bryce Courtenay, Martin Luther King, Russell Crowe, Kieren Perkins and others.
